What is adoption? A guide for prospective parents

Adoption is a way of providing a new permanent family for a child or siblings who cannot grow up with their birth parents or family.

It’s a legal procedure where all parental responsibility is transferred to the adopters, and the child becomes a full legal member of their new adoptive family.  The child you adopt will take your family’s surname and assume the same rights as if they had been born to you.
